Abstract

Field experiments conducted from 1994 to 1996 on a gypsum-amended alkali soils (Aquic Natrustalfs) revealed that continuous use of fertilizer N and P significantly enhanced the yield of rice. The maximum yield was obtained with 100% NPK plus GM (T7) followed by 150% NPK (T10) and 100% NPK plus FYM (T9), but these treatments were at par during 1994 and 1995. However, during 1996, the application of 100% NPK plus GM (T7) or FYM (T9) was significantly better than 150% NPK (T,,). The soil organic carbon, available Zn and Mn in inorganic fertilizer treatments were significantly lower compared to the treatments involving fertilizer treatments with organic source. Marginal improvement of N, P, and K status occurred with 100 and 150% NPK treatments.
