The adsorption of butachor [N-(Butoxymethyl)-2-chloro-N-2,6,-dimethyl acetanilide] was studied on three soils and also with graded levels of animal manure. Adsorption isotherms conformed to the Freundlich equation. Butachlor adsorption increased with increasing organic carbon content of soils with added animal manure. The desorption process exhibited pronounced hysteresis in all the soils. Addition of farmyard manure decreased the desorption of butachor in the soils. The K values ranged from 1289 to 1757 and K values from 21.83 to 84.15. Butachor adsorption cannot be predicted on the basis of a single soil property. The results also suggest that the adsorption-desorption process is influenced by association mechanism between organic and inorganic constituents of soil.
