Abstract

A study was conducted with one inorganic and two organic sources of nitrogen to assess their performance towards sustainability of upland agriculture in hills of Uttaranchal. For this, the nutrient sources were applied to the wheat crop and ragi (locally known as mandua) was taken on residual fertility. After three years of experimentation, it was found that all sources were equally effective in influencing yield of wheat; however, residual effect of organic sources was prominent in affecting the ragi yield. The soil properties also improved under organic nutrition.
