The problems we come across may be of varied nature requiring thorough investigations for proper diagnosis and developing appropriate remedial measures. Hence a detailed comprehensive knowledge on various analytical methods is necessary for precise analysis of soil, plant, water and fertilizer samples. The manual on soil, plant and water analysis by the scientists of the Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, provides all the required information on analytical procedures in a simple language and user-friendly format. The much needed guidelines given for the entrepreneurs on the establishment of a new laboratory have certainly enriched the value of the manual.</p><p>There are seven chapters in this book. The first chapter deals with soil analysis under five sub headings focusing on soil sampling, processing and procedures for estimating P and K fixing capacity of soils. The second chapter deals with plant analysis and the interpretation of plant test results. Water sampling techniques, the analysis, rating of water quality and its use for irrigation are covered in the third chapter and the use of instruments are covered in the fourth chapter. Fifth chapter deals with the determination of microbial biomass, biological activity, bioassay and soil fertility evaluation techniques. Sixth chapter deals with fertilizer recommendations for different situations and use of simulation models. Useful information on establishment of laboratory for soil, plant and water analysis is given in the seventh chapter. Relevant references are also given for the user group. The manual will be highly useful for the teachers, scholars, researchers and lab-technicians associated with soil, plant and water analysis.
