Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in a Vertisol of Malaprabha right bank command (MRBC) of Karnataka for two years (2003–04 and 2004–05) to study the effect of moisture regimes, P levels and P solubiliser on French bean. The highest pod yield of 58.6 q ha−1 was realized when the crop received irrigation at I2 moisture regime (1.0 IW/CPE). Among the P levels, F2 (RDP + PSB) realized higher yield (64.77 q ha−1). The interaction treatment I2F2 recorded significantly higher yield (74.77 q ha−1) compared to other treatment combinations. However, pod yield in 100% RDP recorded on par with 75% RDP + PSB treatment. The N, P and K uptake by the crop was significantly affected due to moisture regimes and P levels. Interaction effect indicated that crop receiving irrigation at 1.0 IW/CPE and RDP + PSB (I2F2) resulted in highest N P and K uptake. The highest water use efficiency (WUE) was observed in I2F2 treatment (37.2 kg ha−1 mm), which was recorded in an increased P uptake as a result of PSB inoculation.
