Abstract

Soil resource information of South Tripura district of north-eastern India was utilized for land evaluation in terms of land capability classification (LCC). The basic assumption of existing LCC that what is best land for one is also best for another has been examined in view of two important crop species of Tripura namely paddy and rubber. In the light of different degrees of limitations for land capabilities vis-á-vis suitability of certain crop species on a landscape, a modification has been proposed in the structure of USDA LCC.
