Abstract

Integrated nutrient management (INM) is a sustainable practice in raising vegetables through mitigation of constraints of multiple natures. A field experiment was carried out at the experimental farm of SASRD, Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University, during 2008 to evaluate the integrated effect of chemical fertilizers, organic manures and biofertilizers on yield, quality and economics of king chilli under foothill condition (sandy loam Alfisol) of Nagaland. Results of a twelve treatment combination field experiment revealed that integrated application of chemical fertilizers, organic manures and biofertilizers significantly increased yield and quality characters as compared to control. Maximum pod yield (11.05 t ha−1), vitamin C (117 mg 100g−1) and capsaicin content (847 thousand SHU) were recorded with conjoint application of 50% NPK + 50% FYM + biofertilizers). These also produced the highest net return of Rs. 571,000 along with benefit cost ratio 6.19:1.
