Effect of Sodic Water Sprinkler Irrigation Depth and Gypsum Levels on Yield and Mineral Composition of Wheat

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted for seven years (2002–03 to 2008–09) to study the effect of depth of sodic water (12.0 me L−1 RSC) irrigations (4, 5 and 6 cm) through sprinkler system and gypsum levels (G0, G50, G75 and G100) on yield and mineral composition of wheat. The wheat yield in 6 cm depth was significantly higher than 4 and 5 cm depth of sodic water sprinkler irrigation. Wheat yield also increased with gypsum application and yield in G75 level was significantly higher than G0 and G50 levels. The depth of sodic water sprinkler irrigation depth had no significant effect on N, P, Mg and Na concentration whereas K concentration of grain significantly decreased with increasing irrigation depth while reversed trend was observed in K concentration in straw. The N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S concentration of grain and straw increased significantly with the increasing level of gypsum while Na content significantly decreased. The Ca, Mg and S content of wheat grain and straw also increased with increasing sprinkler irrigation depth whereas Na content increased only in wheat straw with increasing sprinkler irrigation depth.
