Abstract

We investigated the effect of rock phosphate enriched compost with microbial inoculants on phosphorus (P) fractions in soil and how these forms affect the bioavailability of P to wheat. Phosphorus was applied through rock phosphate enriched compost, P solubilizer and mobilizer and compared with conventional Pfertilizer i.e. single superphosphate. Chemical P- fractions through a sequential fractionation scheme, biomass production, and P concentrations in plant parts were measured to estimate the plant P uptake. Yield, yield attributes and P uptake in straw and grain were significantly affected by the synergistic application of P- enriched compost along with 50% recommended dose for P with the microbial inoculants, compared to absolute control. The percentage contributions of different fractions to the total P content in soil after wheat harvest were in the order of labile P< Fe/Al-P< Ca-P < residual.
