A Rare Case of Fatality due to Auramine Poisoning

Death following the ingestion of auramine is rare and does not appear to have been reported in the literature, though the fatal nature of the poison is well known especially in South India (Tamil Nadu). Auramine is a basic dye and it stains the skin, nail beds, and the internal organs. It is a powerful neuro-toxin and possesses a depressant action on the brain. Although poisoning occurs not infrequently among those occupationally exposed to it, not much research has been done on its toxic profile. On account of its rarity, we report a case of fatal auramine poisoning.
