Abstract

Bovine milk is a boon of nature and perhaps one of the most complete foods. It has formed an integral part of Indian diet since the dawn of human civilization. Due to population explosion in India, the dairy industry faces a remarkable pressure to address the shortage of milk to feed a huge population. This has led to an unprecedented demand of milk. Consequently, this situation has attracted a lot of immoral people towards adulteration of milk with cheaper substitutes to make easy money. The milk provided by such people is not only of inferior quality but may not be milk at all and a health hazard. The present article focuses on the toxicological aspects of this poisoned milk and milk products in India.
