Abstract

The Central Statistical Organisation has been bringing out quarterly estimates of GDP since the first quarter of 1996–97. In this paper an attempt is made to compile seasonally adjusted quarterly GDP data using some of the commonly available software and standard models. Quarterly GDP from the first quarter of the fiscal year 1996–97 to the first quarter of the fiscal year 2005–06 have been considered for seasonal analysis using X-11 methodology (both additive and multiplicative models). Each of the seventeen sectors of the Economy were seasonally analyzed separately and seasonally adjusted GDP are produced using both Additive and Multiplicative model. Four cases of seasonal adjustments are discussed.
