In view of growing importance in local body accounts, an attempt has been made in this paper to bring out the changes in local body estimates based on sample data from the rural local bodies. Indeed, the rural local bodies do raise their income from their own resources besides the grants received from either State or Central Government or any other Institutions. Sample data from State Rural Local Bodes have been analyzed and estimates of local bodies on macro economic variables have been compiled and compared with the existing estimates of these institutions. This paper includes the issues relating to the availability of data and current status of local body accounts, bottlenecks, present methodology of compiling estimates of local bodies, initiatives taken in this regard and concludes with analysis of results and references.
