This paper is an attempt towards estimating the economic size and selected performance indicators of unregistered Small Scale Industries (SSIs) within the unorganized manufacturing sector for the year 2000–01 using a new methodology, which establishes comparability across the concepts and definitions of SSI units and unorganized manufacturing units. Therefore, the estimates obtained through this new methodology may be useful not only for further estimation of important national income aggregates of unregistered manufacturing SSIs within the unorganized manufacturing sector, but also for comparison with the available estimates of Third All India Census of SSIs 2001–02.
