The estimated share of informal sector and informal employment in the GDP and employment of India has been presented in this paper. The estimates have been compiled using the micro-data of surveys of NSSO on employment and unemployment and enterprises and the national accounts statistics. The estimates are presented according to the three main definitions of informal sector adopted/recommended by the CSO, the Delhi Group and the NCEUS.
