This paper aims at studying changing differentials (during 50th, 55th and 61st Rounds of NSS) in inequalities in calorie intake among major Indian states and Union Territories. From per thousand distribution of households by calorie intake level for different monthly per capita expenditure classes in rural and urban regions during each of the three rounds, the inequalities were estimated through (i) Sen’s (1974, 1976) type index of poverty, subsequently modified by Bhatty (1974) and Dasgupta (1984); and (ii) the index of inequality due to Foster, Greer and Thorbecke (1984).
