Though exercise for shifting/revision of base-year from 1999-2000 to 2004-05 is nearing its completion, it is of essence to have a report that highlights inter-state comparison of domestic product of 1999-2000 series. This paper is, therefore, essentially on GSDP, NSDP and Per Capita Income of States/ UTs and All-India with 1999-2000 as the base-year. An attempt is made to facilitate users in critically examining the economic growth and well-being of people in various States. Analysis is done mainly using the GSDP at Current Prices, Economic Growth Rates and Per Capita Incomes. There is focus on the data for various Himalayan States. However, since topography, development challenges & opportunities and various indicators for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are similar, their comparison is especially central.
