The GDP of the public health care services is estimated in India by the input cost approach. This approach takes into account only the cost components of the health care services and does not provide any quantitative or qualitative aspects of the health output or outcome. As a result, it fails to address the system towards achieving the stated goals and proper utilization of both human and other capital resources. In the present study we have made an attempt with some empirical illustrations to improve the methodology of estimating GDP of public health care services with a view to facilitate in revealing utilization of resources as well as the quality of the health services to a certain extent.
