Abstract

Insurance is an important and emerging industry in India. Considering its ability in providing long term funds for infrastructure development and strengthening the risk taking ability of the economy, there is a huge demand of data in this sector. Number of private sector companies also joined the established public sector companies in this sector. This paper provides a detailed analysis of financial performance and capital position of insurance sector companies. The analysis results of different life and non-life insurance corporations both in public and private sectors are presented separately in terms of Sequence of Accounts tables for the year 2011–12. The paper also provides a detailed documentation on the coverage and methodology for preparing the sequence of national accounts tables for insurance corporations in India.
