This paper is an updated version of the paper ‘Informal Employment by Institutional Sectors and Activities in India’ by Ramesh Kolli and Anindita Sinharay published in the Journal of Income and Wealth (2011) and presents the estimated size of informal employment in India, based on the NSS 68th, 66th, 61st, 55th round surveys on employment and unemployment following the guidelines of 17th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS).
