Abstract

In the preparation of input output tables, make and absorption matrices (which are similar to supply and use tables recommended in SNA) are initially compiled. When the source data by industries and products is posted in the supply and use table, normally the supplies do not match with uses at individual product level. In order to balance the supplies and uses of each product, balancing procedures are adopted. The most common methods are the manual balancing and the RAS which is a mathematical balancing. This Paper discusses the appropriateness of RAS for balancing of supply and use matrices in comparison to that of manual balancing, while working with the available source data in India.
