Abstract

The situation assessment survey (SAS) of agricultural households and the All-India Debt and Investment Survey (AIDIS) of rural and urban households were conducted in the 70th round of the National Sample Survey Organisation in the calendar year 2013. Details on indebtedness of households are collected in both the surveys, the SAS covering the agricultural households and the AIDIS the rural cultivator households, a sub-sector of the rural households. The estimates of indebtedness emanating from the results of the two surveys are compared to investigate the correspondence/divergence thereof. Suggestions for additional data collection and tabulations from the existing data are also indicated.
