In this paper, an attempt has been made to work out the private final consumption expenditure (PFCE) estimates at the state level by using direct data rather than using commodity flow method. The approach used takes into account the limitations of the commodity flow approach and the suitability of data from other sources either as alternative estimates or as indicators for apportioning the nationallevel estimates to the states. For this, data available from household consumer expenditure surveys (CES) of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) from 68th round and 71st round (Social consumption in India-Education and Heath) have been used. Further, this paper presents alternative data sources/indicators for moving forward the bench mark estimates of PFCE compiled from survey results to other years.
