Abstract

The input-output (I-O) table for India has been constructed for the year 2013–2014 consistent with the National Accounts estimates given in the new series of National Accounts Statistics (NAS) 2015, whereas the Supply Use Table (SUT) is for the year 2012–2013. To allow for comparisons with the 2007–2008 input-output table, the number of sectors has been kept the same. The validation has been done by qualitatively comparing the two types of output multipliers, namely Type-I and Type-II multipliers corresponding to these two I-O tables. The Type-I multipliers present direct and indirect impacts, whereas Type-II multipliers present direct, indirect and induced effects. A key difference in the 2007–2008 I-O table and the 2013–2014 I-O table is the inclusion of inputs in the public administration sector of the 2013–2014 I-O table, which was ignored in the earlier I-O table. As a result the Type-I multiplier of this sector is more than one for the 2013–2014 I-O table as against the other in 2007–2008 IO-based multiplier. In addition, because of the same reason, the Type-II multipliers obtained from 2013–2014 I-O table are broadly higher than those obtained from the 2007–2008 I-O tables.
