In absence of a universally accepted definition of knowledge, the domain for measurement of supply and use of knowledge products used in this paper is restricted to explicit natures of knowledge. Also, since the framework of System of National Accounts recognises only the resources with value in exchange as assets, the domain is further restricted to discrete units of knowledge having market value. The paper addresses the issue of measuring knowledge in the national accounting context and proposes an approach that permits measurement of supply and use of knowledge products and knowledge-based products. Being constrained by absence of crucial data, however, the estimates derived in the study are rather crude. What can bring about a distinct improvement is an estimated origin-destination matrix of the knowledge products and estimates of ‘entertainment, literary and artistic originals’.
