This research paper conducts a thorough analysis of disaster management and preparedness at the Delhi Public Library (DPL) through a detailed case study approach. Drawing on existing literature and employing survey research methods, the study investigates various dimensions of disaster preparedness, encompassing natural and manmade disasters. The research methodology includes the use of a questionnaire to gather insights across six key categories: Preparedness and Prevention, Action and Response, Resources and Equipment, Functionality of Equipment, Future Improvements, and Challenges faced by the library. Key findings reveal both strengths and areas for improvement. While the DPL demonstrates proactive measures in certain aspects, including the availability of emergency resources and functionality checks on critical equipment, gaps were identified in formal staff training, risk analysis, collaboration with external agencies, and budget allocation that underscore the need for strategic interventions to enhance resilience and response effectiveness. Addressing challenges such as the absence of clear policies, insufficient funds, and inadequate training is crucial for the DPL to fulfill its mandate effectively. By mitigating these challenges, the library can enhance functionality, resource allocation, and service delivery, contributing to broader improvements in disaster management practices within the cultural and educational sectors. This research offers valuable insights for similar organizations seeking to enhance disaster resilience, ultimately contributing to the advancement of disaster preparedness and management practices in public institutions.
