Academic engagement is crucial for interactive learning and student success, as it fosters knowledge retention, educational growth, and achievement. Despite its benefits, some students exhibit a nonchalant attitude and lack of participation, which hinders teachers’ efforts. Integrating ICT into learning is expected to enhance student engagement. This study employed a survey design, targeting 679 students from Babcock University High Schools in Nigeria, with a sample size of 248 determined using the Krejcie and Morgan table. Data collection utilized a structured, validated questionnaire, achieving an 87% response rate. Findings indicated that ICT significantly influenced academic engagement (Adj. R2 = 0.089, F(3, 214) = 21.935, p < 0.05). Computers were the most utilized ICT tools, followed by mobile phones and interactive boards, which were moderately used. Behavioral engagement was characterized by high student attendance, respect for teachers, and involvement in class activities, although participation ranked lowest. Regarding emotional engagement, students prioritized their grades and showed less reliance on peers for assignments. The study concluded that ICT positively contributes to the academic engagement of students. It recommended that school management provide more computers and interactive boards with reliable internet connectivity to enhance class participation. Additionally, teachers should be accessible to students for assistance with assignments. These measures aim to address the identified gaps and maximize the benefits of ICT in fostering academic engagement at Babcock University High Schools.
