Mapping the Convergence of Digital Humanistic Scholarship and LIS: A Bibliometric Study

The intersection of digital humanities (DH) and library science has fundamentally reshaped libraries, transforming them from traditional repositories into active collaborators in digital scholarship. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the current state and evolution of research on DH and libraries from 2004 to 2024. Researchers gathered data from the Scopus database in October 2024. Afterwards, the data was structured to ensure relevance for analyzing outputs from contributors, sources, countries, and affiliations worldwide using Biblioshiny and VOSViewer. This study presents data on publication patterns, most cited documents, annual growth, collaborations, and network mapping of digital humanities literature within the context of libraries. The study shows a significant research trend over time, with a spike in 2014 and 2020, with Warwick as the most relevant author and the USA as the leading producing country. This topic allows further investigation beyond libraries worldwide. The current study is unique in that it examines digital humanities in the context of libraries using data from Scopus. The topic is still evolving and is thus in its infancy. The findings are helpful to researchers in determining future research directions.
