Communication is a process of exchange of ideas between two parties. It can happen through words-oral or written, gestures, signs or symbols. This exchange of words may take place in any language, provided both the parties understand it. English is one of the highest spoken languages in the world today and hence is duly regarded as the international language. However lately, the dynamics of this language is progressively changing. Increased use of text messages, Instant Messages and various other forms of social communication seem to have made our generation oblivious of the notion of punctuation and grammar.

The above, more or less illustrates the current trend as to how we communicate today. Sentences are losing their sanctity, words their characters. This research paper thus aims to dwell upon the effects of short-hand texting on teen literacy and its impact on social communication. Our research methodology is based on information collected from both primary and secondary data.
