The purpose of this study was to investigate the information security practices of IT professionals in Technopark, Trivandrum, Kerala. Structured questionnaires were employed to collect data from a representative sample of 300 IT professionals from different IT companies in the Technopark. The analysis shows that a majority of the professionals have been provided information security awareness sessions and assessed their security awareness once in every six months. A majority of the professionals use firewall in their computer network for Internet security and remote backup as the physical precaution for information security. It is found that all the organizations use access cards for the entry of their employees into the organization. A majority of the professionals use different and very difficult passwords for their applications, systems and accounts. This study will provide useful information for planning, creating, and implementing an effective information security program suitable for IT organisations in India.
