A research library supports scholarly or scientific research and will generally include primary as well as secondary sources; it always tray to retrieve all recent information related to organisation's research work and attempt to provide access to necessary information resources in different forms. The rapid change in technology has made the existing knowledge of research and development (R&D) library professionals ineffective, which they had at the time of entering into the organisation. Hence, professionals have to be trained to operate new techniques and equipments and handle the present as well as new jobs more effectively. Training is useful not only for the organisations, but also for the employees, as it develops knowledge, problem-solving ability and skill of the newly recruited employees on the one hand and serves as a refresher course in updating old employees on the other hand. It aims at improving the organisation's performance through the enhanced performance of its employees. Because of these reasons, training has become an integral part of human resource development in R&D libraries. Knowing this fact, the following study has been carried out to identify the training and development trends in Indian R&D libraries.
