A panoramic view of library automation in public libraries in India

Abstract

The libraries traditionally have been an important hnk of transfer of the ideology, thoughts, and facts between the author and the readers through an initiated cham from the author, earned through by publisher, library acquisition, cataloguing and finally circulating it to its users. In a world of instant information, the concept ofvisiting the libraries for a piece of information by the users is now an antiquated one. It would be hardly surprising that in libraries in India the most significant strides are bang made in automation practices and procedures. This study reviews the literature on library automation collected through literary sources such as journal articles, conference proceedings, reports, monographs, etc. published inside and outside India evaluating the library automation, library services, need for automation, problems faced by the professionals, etc.
