Abstract

The purpose of this study was to understand the screen reading habits of students at Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. The paper focuses on identifying the timing, location, types of digital materials, and devices used for digital reading. A questionnaire was created to gather primary data, which was then distributed among students who visited the university library. The data was analyzed using simple percentage and ranking systems and presented in tables. The study found that university students read digital content on screens using their mobile phones and laptops, without any specific time constraints. Reading on screens provides students with quick access to information at any time, but it also comes with drawbacks such as eye strain and network issues. Students prefer to read books, lecture notes, and WhatsApp messages on screens, using this method to update their knowledge, prepare for competitive exams, and get ready for class exams. The preferred locations for screen reading among students are the university library and their homes.
