This study aims to evaluate the status of Open Access Institutional Repositories (OAIRs) in Ukraine as listed in the Directory of Open Access Repositories (Open DOAR), focusing on key repository characteristics including year-wise growth, type, subject coverage, content types, languages, and software used.
The study adopts a descriptive research approach. Data were collected from the OpenDOAR website as of September 23,2024. The collected data were analysed and presented through tables and charts to identifY trends and patterns across multiple parameters such as repository type, year of registration, subject discipline, software usage, and language interface.
A total of 98 institutional repositories from Ukraine were examined. Institutional repositories dominated the landscape (96.94%), with the highest number registered in 2019. English was the most used interface language (79.2%), followed by Ukrainian and Russian. Science, technology, and social sciences emergedas the mostre presented subjects. journal articles and theses constituted the majority of repository content. DSpace was the predominant software used (88. 78%).
The findings offer valuable insights for repository developers, policy makers, and academic institutions in Ukraine, guiding them toward strengthening open access infrastructure and enhancing research visibility.
This study provides a focused assessment of Ukraine's contribution to global open access through institutional repositories, helping to benchmark its progress and identify areas for strategic development.
