Ontology management in libraries using graph databases

Abstract

The growth of data science indicates the necessity of marshaling the knowledge and managing ontologies more efficiently. The importance of graph databases is already a technology required to satisfy these requirements. Their provision allows the modeling of intricate social relationships and managing ontologies in a more fluid and lively manner. It has shifted the emphasis to graph databases and data that are modeled with mathematical graph structures, where storage and searching tasks are supported. It provides an alternative way of looking at databases. The application of graph databases within library and information sciences is described in the paper. The research illustrates the way graph databases are enhancing the make-up of intertwined information systems and are able to scale to any new technology. The findings indicate that employing graph databases in information science libraries will be able to facilitate knowledge organization and ontology management to push the boundaries of information science.
