Information searching habits of under graduate students: A study at PC Jabin science college, Hubballi, Karnataka

Abstract

Based on the data collected from 167 users using structured questionnaire reports the results of a study conducted to identify the information searching habits of under-graduate students to plan the library services of K.L.E. Society's, PC Jabin Science College, Hubballi, Karnataka. The results indicate that a large number of students visit library few times a week (47.9%, N=80). Discusses the relationship between information seeking and information use. Identifies user behaviour in the course of information seeking and information use and feelings often experienced in the course of information retrieval. Finds the helpful documents in solving information problem. Reports the criteria used by users in judging relevance of documents searched and used in solution of your information problem and feeling upon completion of solving information problem. Discusses how users access to Internet and use e-resources whether they pay for the use of e-resources. Also discusses their preference of using electronic resources to traditional (printed) ones.
