The purpose of this paper is to describe the factors of adoption, implementation and impact of Koha open source software in a university library system. Data were collected through questionnaire. The study covered library professionals in the Cochin University Library (CUL) system, Kerala, India. The study found that cost, organizational culture, awareness and attitude of staff towards open source software, competency of staff, and availability of Live CDs were the main factors of adoption of Koha software. The library implemented the software without any vendors’ support. The study also revealed that implementation of Koha had its impact on library services and the performance of library professionals. The positive and developmental changes of Koha adoption shall influence the use of the software elsewhere.
