Use of mobile devices to access electronic resources by medical college students in Bengaluru, Karnataka: A study

The study investigates the use of mobile devices to access electronic resources by medical college students (undergraduates) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Most of the respondents’ preferred device is smartphone (99.8%). The study reveals that 33.4% of medical students (446 out of 600 sample population) use mobile devices for 1 to 2 hours per day. The medical college students also used mobile devices for accessing social networking sites, productivity tools for preparation of assignments, collecting the videos and academic readings. Nearly 96% of them accessed e-books and tutorials and used medical-related apps for accessing e-resources. While using mobile devices for a longer duration, medical students say they faced issues such as physical difficulties like eyestrain, inconvenience caused by the relatively small screen, Internet addiction, slow Internet connection and distraction from the academic work.
