Abstract

While treating dental patients, the dentist might encounter problems like gagging. In dental patients gagging can be disruptive to dental treatment and may be a barrier to patient care, preventing the provision of treatment. The severely affected patient tends not to seek routine dental treatment, presenting only when in severe pain. Patient with severe gagging problem may have poor dental health. Advancements in dental treatment procedures have greatly helped in reducing such cases

This article describes the etiology of gagging and how advanced treatment modalities help in managing a patient with hyperactive gag reflex.
