Abstract

Desmoplastic fibroma (DF) is a rare benign neoplasm, accounting for only 0.06% of all primary bone tumors. It most commonly arises in mandible and the metaphysis of long bones. DF of ilium is a rarity. The case described in this report is unusual and complicated because the tumor involved most of the ilium with extension to soft tissues including femoral nerve, and the lesion showed an evident sign of malignancy on radiology. Preoperative biopsy revealed the diagnosis of DF. Wide local resection, anastomosis of femoral nerve, and reconstruction of pelvic stability was performed. The procedure was followed by an excellent clinical recovery and no recurrence as of the six -year follow-up review.
