Biceps brachii is one of the greatest variable muscles of the human body in terms of origin. Muscle principally originated by the two heads namely long and short. The long head originates from the supraglenoid tubercle of scapula whereas the short head originates from the tip of the coracoids process of scapula. The muscle is reported to have several anatomical variations that might have clinical implications. The Anatomical variations already known include an additional third head arising from the humerus in 10% of cases, considered as normal variation but four, five, and even seven supernumerary heads have been reported in rare cases. Another variation includes the distal biceps tendons which are sometimes completely divorced (in 40%) and at moments are splitin (25%) of cases.
These variations are dissimilar in various populations, just as, 8% in Chinese; European white, 10%; African black, 12%; Japanese, 18%; South African blacks, 21%; South African whites, 8%; and in Colombians 38%. The considering of these variations is meaningful at the time of surgeries of the arm; from anatomical context it can be speculate that the presence of anextra head may increase the power of flexion and supination of the forearm.
