The pulmonary function test is a non-invasive and most fruitful test for earliest diagnosis of lung diseases. The test differentiates obstructive and restrictive lung diseases, which are most common lung disorders in workers of industrial area.
Pulmonary diseases are most important occupational hazards. Lungs with extensive surface area, high blood flow and thin alveolar epithelium is at high risk of contact with air pollutants.
Workers of many industries like leather industry, textile industry and sugar industry are prone to pulmonary diseases. Glass industry is also one of those industries where lung diseases are common. Very little work has been done on pulmonary function changes in labourers working in glass industry.
We have planned our study on workers in bangle industry of Ferozabad Uttar Pradesh. Ferozabad is well known for its bangle (glass) industry.
Our results showed that significant deterioration in lung function occur in workers of glass industry.
