Abstract

Osteoporosis, the “fragile bone disease, ” is usually termed as “silent disease ”considering bone debt takes place asymptomatically. It is due to the loss of bone mass caused by insufficiency of calcium, vitamin D, magnesium and other required vitamins and minerals. In advance cases, osteoporosis can lead to loss of height, stooped posture, humpback, and severe pain. In Osteopenia peoples have low bone density but do not have osteoporosis and are commonly seen in people over age 50. Bone mineral density (BMD) uses X-ray for the measurement of calcium levels in bones, which can estimate the risk of bone fractures, recommended preventive screenings for bone mineral density. It is also used to determine if a patient has osteopenia or osteoporosis. The present study was conducted to find out the prevalence of osteoporosis and osteopenia of a specific population visiting to the out-patient department of Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College and Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, UP, India.
