Emerging trends in alternative processing and weather effects of Al-Li-X alloys

Abstract

Aluminum Lithium alloys have studied because of Young's modulus increment of 6%, density decrement of 4% for every percentage increment of Li content. The associated reduced ductility and toughness accounted from shareable δ' - precipitate has reviewed with reference to different conditions of weather of service exposure. These contain temperature above ambient temperature in an atmosphere of hydrogen enrichment, under temperature, marine atmosphere. The contexts have described rapid solidification for grain refining with homogeneous dispersoid additions. And hydrogen embrittlement causes and role of different effect in hydrogen absorption - desorption traps those create earlier degradation tendencies. Lithium reactivity to aggressive weather has described to understand the technique to recover corrosion and increase component life. Role of alloying elements have studied to understand formation of indigenous precipitation those reduce grain coarsening of refined grains by treatments e.g. equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) as well as strengthening effects from slip line scattering effects.
