Abstract

The soft and hard combination of Aluminum and SiC particles makes an excellent composite material. Among Metal Matrix Composites [MMCs] Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites [AMMCs] makes an attractive composite materialmainly due to high strength to its weight ratio, excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, good electrical and thermal conductivity properties. These properties have a very high demand in the field of aerospace, marine and automobile industry. This high demand made Engineers to shift their focus from monolithic to composite materials. A unique innovative engineered composite material is developed by blending aluminum (Al), Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Graphite (Gr) which yields in best possible metal matrix composite material developed by Powder Metallurgy (PM) route. Developed composite samples has been tested for tribological properties using DUCOM pin-on-ball disk equipment at controlled room temperature and dry conditions. The influence of reinforcement particle size and amount of weight fraction on dry sliding wear behavior have been analyzed in detail by varying applied load, sliding speed and distance. Composite samples constituting bigger size SiC particles and with increasing volume fraction found to be the best. Overall investigational results shows outstanding composite amalgamation of Al-SiC-Gr.
