Abstract

The success or failure of a project portfolio depends on its stakeholders. This study aimed to identify internal and external project portfolio stakeholders according to their functional roles. The article is based on an exploratory study of 15 interviews and an empirical study of 255 questionnaires answered by industry practitioners in the field of project management. The research identified 22 stakeholders according to their functional role. The stakeholders were further classified according to their salience and influence.
