Use of electronic communications data in academic research is discussed in this paper. The paper addresses why electronic communications data is attractive for researchers and how a researcher can use this type of data. It will also look at the prospect of researching a labor dispute and the related labor organizing using electronic communications data. The paper concludes by discussing the ethical issues relevant to accessing this data for research purposes.
