Health sciences research during the past couple of decades has provided evidence for effective diagnostic and therapeutic interventions that has changed the quality of life for patients. However, the impact of these evidence based interventions has not been uniform across all regions and settings. There are a large number of delivery issues which influence the impact: Who should receive them? Where to use it? How to use it? How to schedule the delivery of the intervention? How much will it cost? Who will pay for it? And many more such questions. Several of these questions cannot be answered by the usual clinical or epidemiological research approaches. Operational research (OR) is the approach to finding solutions to these questions.
