Effectiveness of a workshop on capacity building of nurses through personality development

The strongest attribute in nurse's life would be to possess an attractive personality. The 21^st century nurses need to focus and capacity build on their personalities to enable them survive, adapt, and thrive in this fastchanging world. Capacity Building on personality would mean to develop and strengthen the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources of nurses which makes them more competent and productive ensuring quality nursing care. Hence, the health and family welfare department of Tamilnadu has conducted a study to assess the effectiveness of a workshop in 5 phases on capacity building of nursing superintendents in the state of Tamil Nadu with the aim of assisting them to fine tune their leadership skills, decision making, conflict management and team building skills.

As the study was primarily concerned to assess the effectiveness of the workshop on Personality Development, The results of the five phases revealed that majority of the participants had inadequate knowledge (74%) in the pre test and in the post test majority of them (90%) gained adequate knowledge. The overall knowledge of total mean score obtained by the nurses was significantly higher in post test (M=119.33) than the in pre test (M=100.15) with the obtained't' value of p<0.001. The results can be attributed to the effectiveness of workshop.
