Abstract

The teenage years are full of turmoil and changes that can have a detrimental affect on a girl's sense of identity and her self esteem. Overall, girls self esteem in adolescence is one contributing factor that increases the likelihood of a young girl dropping out of school or becoming pregnant. An experimental pre test and post test control group design was used to determine the effectiveness of group counseling on the level of self esteem of adolescent school girls. There was a significantly greater increase (p=0.000) in the level of self-esteem of the girls who had participated in-group counseling compared with those who had not participated. Group counseling on self esteem enhances and improves the level of self esteem in adolescent girls.
